During your orthodontic treatment, you'll find there are certain food you can’t eat. Dietary limitations can make packing a lunch of school or work difficult, so here are some ideas for convenient and filling snack options from our Vancouver orthodontists.
Dairy
Yogurt, soft cheeses and pudding are easy on your braces, full of protein and calcium, and tasty, too! They’re usually easy to carry around, but keep in mind that they do need to be refrigerated after a time.
Soft Fruits
Soft fruits include watermelon, grapes, and kiwis. They are refreshing and sweet, and have lots of fibre to keep you full between meals. Cut your fruit up at the beginning of the week and store portions in your fridge in plastic baggies or Tupperware to grab and go.
Soft Meats
Lunch meats, meatballs, and soft-cooked meats like chicken are high in protein and no problem at all for your braces. Put them on a sandwich or cook up a large batch in sauce to eat with pasta, potatoes and veggies throughout the week.
Soft Veggies
Vegetables like tomatoes and peppers are naturally soft, and almost any cooked veggies work too. They are easy to prep and store for easy access during your school or work week. They’re full of vitamins and minerals that will keep your body (and your teeth) healthy and strong.
Thin Crackers or Vegetable Chips
There are many healthy cracker and veggie chip options available at the grocery store.Select low in sodium snacks if possible, and nothing too hard or crunchy. Eat them with your soft cheeses and some fruit for a simple, delicious lunch!
